The bill of a bird is one of its most characteristic and unchangeable features. Unlike plumage, which may be ruffed up or slicked down, or change in breeding season, the size and shape of a bird's bill is relatively fixed. From seeing a bird's bill, the knowledgable naturalist can accurately guess what a bird eats, and what kind of habitat it likes.
To drive this point home, we give in the illustration below, depictions of the bills of seven birds whose bills vary widely. You are asked to try matching each bill with the mixed up list of birds. For each bill, make your choice. Then click on the bill number to see if you were correct. This is intended to be a fun exercise. No grades are given or implied.
